On April 29, forest professionals and industry leaders gathered to explore the fire-adapted forests of the Red Hills region, including old-growth shortleaf pine stands, savannah restoration sites, and a live gopher tortoise survey as part of the day’s field program. 

The gathering emphasized how prescribed fire, long-term research and collaboration—alongside certification frameworks—can support biodiversity, resilient forests, and market access for sustainably managed land.

FSC US hosted a field day with Duke University at Duke Forest in North Carolina, gathering forestry-professionals, sustainability specialists, and land-managers to explore certification as a tool not just for timber production but for strengthening watershed health, ecosystem services, and regenerative forest-management.
